Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cable Technician to install, maintain, and repair cable systems for television, internet, and telecommunications services. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with coaxial, fiber optic, and Ethernet cabling, and be comfortable working in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Install and configure cable systems, including coaxial, fiber optic, and structured cabling.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cable signal, connectivity, or performance.
Perform service upgrades, installations, and disconnections.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.
Maintain and document all work, including service logs and customer reports.
Test cable systems and signal strength using appropriate testing equipment.
Read blueprints, technical diagrams, and work orders to determine cabling needs.
Operate equipment such as cable reels, ladders, and test meters.
Provide excellent customer service and educate customers on system use.
Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle (if applicable) in safe working order.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree is a plus.
Proven experience as a cable technician or similar role.
Strong knowledge of cable installation techniques and equipment.
Familiarity with industry safety standards and procedures (e.g., OSHA).
Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb poles/ladders, and work in confined spaces.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings if needed.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with fiber optic installations and splicing.
Knowledge of networking and IP-based systems.
Certifications such as BICSI, FOA, or OSHA 10/30 are a plus.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Work Environment:
Outdoor and indoor settings, including residential homes, office buildings, and industrial sites.
Exposure to various weather conditions.
Use of hand tools, power tools, and electronic testing devices.
