This position is responsible for assisting the nursing staff in monitoring patient status. This position will be responsible for assessing EKG strips and arrhythmias. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring patient activity for patients at risk for falling via remote cameras. The individual in this position will possess troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem. Identify and responds to potentially life-threatening rhythm changes, and potentially dangerous patient activity. The individual in this position reports to the Medical Surgical Director

This is a part time day shift position working 7:00 am - 7:30 pm.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):

1. Communicate appropriately and clearly to members of the care team.
2. Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful conditions.
3. Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
4. Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities.
5. Prioritize scheduling of work in complex situations.
6. Care and maintenance of cardiac equipment by assigning to patients and cleaning after use.
7. Care and maintenance of sitter video equipment.
8. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
9. Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
10. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
11. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
12. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
13. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
14. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (not limited to):

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), EKG Tech or ED Tech with at least one (1) year acute care experience.
3. Avasure experience preferred.
4. Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred.
5. Knowledge of medical terminology.
6. Must successfully complete the EKG course within one (1) month of hire.
7. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
2. Mostly sedentary work. Prolonged periods of sitting.
3. Good reading eyesight; color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
4. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
5. Considerable reaching/stooping/bending/kneeling/crouching.

COMPETENCIES:

1. Successful completion of approved EKG coursework with demonstrated competency in identification of lethal arrhythmias.
2. Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
3. Demonstrate accountability. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
4. Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum.
5. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
